What’s the process for getting custom fitted golf clubs?

Fitted Clubs

The best golfers in the world use custom fitted golf clubs because clubs fitted for them will help their game.

If you’re using off the rack clubs and you’re struggling to improve, even after having had golf lessons, the problem may lie with your clubs.

The process of getting custom fitted golf clubs is much easier than you think. First we collect data on your current golf swing which helps us identify the way your clubs should be built.

If you’re considering getting fitted for custom golf clubs, you’re making the right choice.

It’s undeniable that by being fitted and putting time and effort into improving your game you’ll play better golf.

How does custom fitting work?

The custom fitting process works by measuring and analysing a golfer’s physical characteristics and swing style to create a set of clubs that are perfectly suited to the individual golfer.

Club fitting typically involves the use of technology.

Launch monitors, swing analysers, and other tools are used to gather data about the golfer’s swing, ball flight, and other key performance metrics.

Based on this data, the club fitter will make recommendations and adjustments to the club components such as the club head, shaft, loft, and grip to ensure they are optimised for the individual golfer.

What’s the most important thing about getting custom fitted?

The most important thing about getting custom fitted is to work with a skilled club fitter.

Someone who has the experience, knowledge, and technology to provide a comprehensive and accurate fitting process.

This includes having access to the right equipment and technology, as well as a deep understanding of the golf swing and the factors that influence performance.

A good club fitter should also take the time to understand the golfer’s goals and playing style and be able to make recommendations and adjustments based on the golfer’s individual needs.

Should a beginner get custom fitted?

Here at The Golf School, our opinion is not right away.

Beginner golfers can benefit from being custom fitted however at first you’re swing style is likely to change as you progress, so it’s best to wait until you’re confident that you’ve got a swing you’re happy with.

Starting with clubs that are tailored to their physical characteristics can cause issues when you’re making just starting out, so in our opinion it’s best to wait till you’re going around the course consistently scoring around 20 over par or better.

From here it’s suitable to get fitted and dial into what’s going to be most effective to change to see continued improvement in your game.

Custom-fitted clubs can also help beginner golfers avoid frustration and improve their overall enjoyment of the game, making sure they carry on and don’t throw in the towel.

What to bring to a golf club fitting?

When going for a golf club fitting, it is recommended to bring your current golf clubs, if you have any, as well as a few balls to hit during the fitting process, (most places will have balls for you to hit but it’s good to get an idea about how you’re performing with the balls you typically use).

It’s also a good idea to wear comfortable clothing and shoes that you would normally wear on the course, as well as to bring a hat or sunglasses if you have them.

If you have any specific goals or concerns about your golf game, be sure to bring those to the fitting as well so that the club fitter can address them during the process.

The club fitting process explained

The process of being fitted for golf clubs is a comprehensive and thorough evaluation of a golfer’s physical characteristics and swing style.

The process typically involves the following steps:

Assessment of physical characteristics:

The club fitter will gather information about the golfer’s height, weight, arm length, grip size, and other physical attributes.

This information is used to determine the right length, weight, and grip size for the clubs.

Swing analysis

The club fitter will observe the golfer’s swing, measuring factors such as swing speed, swing plane, and launch angle.

This information is used to determine the right clubhead, shaft, and loft for the golfer.

Launch monitor analysis: Many club fitters use launch monitors to measure the golfer’s ball flight, spin rate, and other data.

This information is used to determine the right clubhead, shaft, and loft for the golfer.

Test club fitting:

The club fitter will provide the golfer with a variety of clubs to test and evaluate, allowing the golfer to see how the different clubs perform.

The golfer will hit shots with each club and provide feedback to the club fitter about the feel, performance, and overall comfort of each club.

Adjustments and final fitting:

Based on the golfer’s feedback and the data collected during the fitting process.

The club fitter will make final adjustments to the clubs to ensure they are perfectly tailored to the golfer’s physical characteristics and swing style.

Club delivery and follow-up:

The club fitter will provide the golfer with their new custom-fitted clubs and schedule a follow-up appointment to evaluate their performance and make any additional adjustments if necessary.

Overall, the process of being fitted for golf clubs typically takes anywhere from one to two hours and is a comprehensive and personalised experience designed to help golfers play their best golf.

Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced golfer, getting custom fitted for your clubs can provide you with a significant performance boost and an overall more enjoyable golfing experience.
